A note on how we choose

Our roster is built over years of correspondence, late-night listening sessions, and trust earned from artists willing to share unreleased work.

The Artists index is the editorial spine of Richie Styles. Every name you find here has been written about, listened to in full, and discussed in our weekly editorial meetings before being added. We don't accept paid placements, label sponsorship, or any form of promotional fee in exchange for coverage — a policy we have held since the site's founding.

What you will find in each profile is a small editorial portrait, a chronological discography with our critic's listening notes, links to any long-form interviews we have published, and a snapshot of the artist's current working practice. For some — like the ambient composer Halldór Vatn — this means a remote studio in a former herring warehouse. For others — like the Lagos-born singer Mira Okafor — it means a touring schedule that rarely keeps her in one city for more than two consecutive weeks.

We update this index every quarter, retire artists who have paused their work or moved in directions we no longer cover, and add new names as we discover them. The roster you see today is the result of a continuous conversation with musicians, listeners, and our small team of staff critics. If you believe an artist belongs here and we have missed them, we welcome your note.
